Matthew Highton is a Northern stand-up and filmmaker currently exiled down south. He is a gifted storyteller who deals in gripping flights of fancy, as well as engrossing tales that breathe warmth and hilarity. His career has seen him on BBC Three, Radio 4, Sky One, ITVand Radio 4 Extra,performing his critically acclaimed solo shows at festivals across the world and his latest special is currently streaming on Next Up. Recently he has been one of the faces of Beano Studios, working with them as a presenter, writer and director, including directing and performing for their flagship Sky One show So Beano. He currently has a Resonance FM show with Joz Norris, after co-hosting a show with multi award winning Tony Law. He has also been writing for Channel 4’s Mashed where his videos have amassed over a million views each. Highton is also a director, writer and collaborator for the 2018 Chortle award winningand Dave’s Leicester Comedy FestivalAwards nominated Weirdos Collective(“Making us laugh at very strange things” The Independent, “The closest thing we have to a modern day Comic Strip” Chortle), and co-founder of Chortle nominated, live, improvised comedy show, Comedians Cinema Club(“One of the best audience-participation showsThe Guardian), which has now grown to house residencies in London, Brighton and LA and has its own series of widely-regarded podcasts. Away from his live work Highton is a skilled filmmaker, his short films have been selected for international festivals across the world as well as collaborating on sketches and trailers with some of the biggest names in comedy. A devout nerd, his love of pop culture got him the role of resident host across all of the Belgium ComicConsand seen him on stage at massive conventions such as EGX, MCM’s London ComicConand appearances on Radio 4’s Film Programme.

With a keen eye for the abstract and an unfathomable commitment to his work, this affable Northerner is one of the most unique and stimulating director/writer/performers working today.
